Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall

Prisoners of geography by Tim Marshall—An okay intro to geopolitics

There are items and services I use, like, and sometimes write about here at braeuNERD, where you can find affiliate links. If you take action (i.e. make a purchase) after clicking them, I'll probably earn a few bucks from it and get myself a coffee (at no extra cost to you!). I only recommend items and services I've vetted or books I've read.

A book to take with a grain of salt. Although I don’t fully align with the author’s anthropocentric attitude—that “the universe has placed barriers for us” and that geography and gravity are things we must overcome—I found this book to be a very concise and useful introduction to geopolitics and the world we live in today.

That said, I wouldn’t take all the conclusions at face value, as the author primarily examines geopolitics through the lens of geography, giving less attention to other key aspects like human behavior, history, and even technology. For someone new to geopolitics (hi, that’s me too), I found it a useful starting point, though exploring additional perspectives might be the healthiest thing to do. I’m also a fan of geography, by the way, but not as the sole explainer to how we behave today.

I sure learned a lot from it!
