Hi there! My name is María Braeuner
(she/her)
Guatemalan born and raised, currently based in Germany.
A biologist by training, science communicator by calling.
Conservationist by conviction.
I wear many hats and I’m passionate about every one of them. But at the end of the day, they all converge in conservation. I believe in the power of education—formal and informal—to equip ourselves and others with the tools to live our fullest lives and do the things that make us happy in harmony with others and nature, and continue to share what we’ve learned on every step of the way. And for that, empathy and communication are key.
I am convinced that if everybody knew how fascinating all life on Earth is, from the tiniest cyanobacteria to the common brown bird in your window, conservation would be inevitable. And that’s why I do what I do.

EpiSTEMas Podcast
One of my proudest projects so far: EpiSTEMas is a bi-weekly STEM podcast where we make Latin American scientists and engineers stories more accessible in Spanish through light, fun, conversational interviews. We aim to bring science closer to people in our own language, since most STEM content online—and in print—is still English-dominated and a myriad of negative stereotypes around these fields prevail in our region. With 180+ episodes to date, we now know that we’re also a go-to source for lifelong learners, Spanish learners, Latinx communities throughout the world, and sometimes even a resource for university lecturers!
